Factvertising
Your brand is no longer being understood one piece at a time.
Traditionally, people encounter a brand through different touchpoints.
An advertisement may tell them what the brand stands for.
A product page tells them what it does.
Reviews tell them what other people think.
An article may add another perspective.
A social post, influencer collaboration, event or news story adds another piece.
People put these pieces together, imperfectly.
That is changing.
LLMs are inference machines. When people ask them about a brand, they can draw on multiple sources and signals to form an understanding of that brand.
Product information. Reviews. Articles. Forums. News. Consumer conversations. Older information. Competitor claims. And many other signals.
The result is not simply a list of links. It is an interpretation.
This changes what brand building needs to do.
A brand may describe itself as premium while regularly communicating discounts.
Its advertising may promise one thing while customer reviews describe another.
Its current positioning may be very different from information about the brand that has accumulated over the years.
Each individual piece may make sense on its own.
Taken together, they may create a different picture.
For humans, this fragmentation was often manageable. We encountered information selectively and made sense of it from what we saw.
An LLM can bring many of those pieces together.
So brands need to think beyond what they are actively saying.
They need to understand what the entire body of information about them is saying.
What is Factvertising?
The process of understanding how your brand is represented across its entire information environment and identifying the gaps, contradictions and inconsistencies that can affect how it is understood.
It goes beyond positioning and communication.
We look at:
What the brand says about itself
What customers say about it
How products and services are described
What independent sources say
What information has accumulated over time
How competitors are represented
Where different parts of the brand story agree or contradict each other
How LLMs currently interpret and describe the brand
The objective is not to manufacture a better answer from an AI.
It is to build a brand that is coherent enough for the answer to be based on a consistent body of evidence.
From brand building to brand rebuilding
This may require changes to communication.
It may also require changes to the product, customer experience, positioning, proof points or the information that exists around the brand.
Because you cannot permanently optimise your way around an incoherent brand.
Factvertising is about Brand Coherence. Making sure the different pieces add up to the brand you actually want people, and increasingly machines, to understand.
